In celebration of the release of He Came for Mine, book two in CM Brown’s Protector Series, she joins us today for Fast Five.  Which makes me think of “Think Fast!” Ahh, childhood memories of bygone television programming.
Way off the topic at hand.
Fast Five with CM Brown
1.       Is writing your main occupation?
Even though I would like it to be, writing is not my main occupation. I have a day job in a high school, where I support students from years 8 to 12, improving their Literacy and Numeracy skills.  I work almost a full 38 hour week, most weeks.
Luck for me, my travelling time is minimal, (approximately 20 mins each way) and I have a wonderful hubby who once worked as a chef and enjoys cooking most of our family meals, allowing me time for my writing. He also helps with the menial household chores! (Aren’t I lucky?)
 2.       Do you plot out the entire manuscript, write as inspiration hits, or somewhere in between?
I must say, somewhere in between.  I usually develop a story line inside my head, and then let it flow where it takes me as I write and if a different path eventuates, I am happy to be lead down it.  I write my whole novel out by hand, edit, and then type it up.  After these steps I will usually edit another two or more times before sending it on to my CP’s.
Once returned from my CP’s, I seriously take on their suggestions and either re-write certain parts or remove them entirely. I have great faith in their view points.
 3.       What are your processes for over-coming writer’s block?
I have never experienced writer’s block.  At times I may not be in the ‘mood’ to write, when that happens I walk away, do something else and come back later refreshed and ready to go.
 4.       What is next for you?
Something exciting and different, which I am very excited about! I have been asked by my illustrator to write the story line for a 3D project she is endeavouring to produce next year. It will be a weekly or monthly serial, which is to be uploaded onto Utube.  I will also be featuring it on my Blog too, but it will of course take time to develop and create before it is ready to post, so hopefully it will be up and running sometime later in the new year.
I am also writing two novels at the moment.  The first is the sequel in my series, ‘The Protectors’ and a totally new novel, which I have given the title of “T.I.N.T”.   It is a story based around a girl called Merri-lee, who is just out of college and is lucky enough to land a job with a flashy magazine as a junior editor. She finds that there is an underlying mystery within this organisation which opens her up to a world filled with vampires and hunters hidden among the glamour and prestige!
5.       What is the best writing tip you have ever received?
It would have to be not to bore my readers with too much backstory when writing a sequel in a series.  It is a hard balance to find as you need to give readers who have not read the previous book some knowledge of what has transpired, but keep others engaged.
